Our night time routine

 As Alexander grows, we think it is very important to start introducing some kind of routines thoughout the day. It helps him to know what is going to happen and it helps us to maintain our sanity! As early as two months, we started with a night time routine and have stuck to it since. I have to tell you that that it made a huge difference. Here I share what we do in an everyday basis in order to have a good night sleep (or as good as it gets with a baby).

Usually, around eight in the afternoon, Alexander starts to show signs of tiredness: he rubs his eyes and starts crying a little. Then we know that it is time to start the night routine.

First thing in the list is bathtime. We bathe him every night and works wonders. The warm water relaxes him and helps him sleep much better. Also he loves playing in the bathtub and that gets rid of the last energy that he has.

 
  
 Once he is done with the bath, we give him a massage with some baby oil. This helps him relax and moisturize his skin. Since he sleeps in our bedroom, his changing table is also there. We only light the bedside lamps in order to create a more softer atmosphere for him to fall asleep.




 Now it is time to nurse... I sit on our bed and with the soft light and in silence I nurse him. Usually he falls asleep directly afterwards and I can lay him in his crib

This helps us to have a relaxed dinner and to have a couple of hours just the two of us to chat and watch some of our favourite TV shows.

 

 I am sure that when he is a bit older this routine will be updated to meet our needs, but for now this is what works best for us
