Refresh your home for spring

As you can imagine, here in Hannover it is still very cold and grey. The days are short and rainy and I cannot wait for spring to show!. One of the main things I miss from my hometown is the sun and the warmer temperatures. That is why I thought that for cheering me up I had to introduce spring into our flat. Here is what I do when I want to refresh my home and get ready for the warmer weather.

1. Time to clean

Now is the perfect time to do a deep clean to the house and tidy up and / or throw away all the stuff that we collect during the winter months. If the temperatures are warm enough open windows and balconies and let the fresh air through.

2. Remove carpets

Here in winter we place carpets on the floors to make the place a bit more cozy and warm. But now is the time to roll them and store them away!

3. Flowers

Here in Germany is very usual going to the supermarket and go home with some fresh flowers. I love to have some at home, it instantly gives such a nice feeling and the brighter colors help lift the mood. Now it is tulip season and you can find them in so many colors... roses are also always a good idea, but I would not use red roses. Go for softer tones instead.

4. Change the fabrics

It is also a great time to change the fabrics for something lighter and cooler. Try changing the pillows on the couch for ones with lighter colors or a florar pattern and maybe use some cotton throws instead of blankets.

5. Refresh your decoration

Store all objects with darker colors and put some more colorful ones. I also change the pictures in the frames and on the walls using some of our spring and summer travels.

 6. Candles

Personally, I love candles and I always have one burning at home. Now I tend to go for more fresh scents such as vanilla, jasmine or fresh mint. Even citrus scents give a very spring touch!

I hope that you enjoyed today's post. Let me know in the comments how do you refresh your home for the warmer weather.

Until next time,

Pilar
