Since we moved to the new flat at the end of my pregnancy, I have been thinking on projects that would make it a home. Our old flat was much smaller than this one, and that is why I have empty walls and I could not decide what I wanted to do with them. One of these walls, is the one in our living room, where our sofa is. I did not want to buy a piece of art and spend a lot of money nor did I wanted to leave it blank.
The solution: a photo collage!.
First, you want to collect some picture frames. I bought these from different stores buy I am sure you have some at home that you could use. I think it looks best when none of the frames are the same. They have to be similar but with different textures and sizes. In order to add a pop of colour or a bit more interest to the composition, include a couple of frames totally different from the other ones. I chose gold frames because our wall is white.
Then choose the pictures you want to display. This would be hard if you are like me and have a ton!. I decided that in the smallest frame I would put a quote instead of a photo. I just wrote something I liked and printed it in our home printer.
Lay the frames on the floor and play with different compositions until you find a combination that you like. I recommend aligning the frames from the bottom or the top part. It will look more put together.
Once you have the combination that works for you, measure the wall and mark with some tape the shape of the frames. It helps visualize if it really works or if something has to be changed.
Now measure where the hooks are for each frame and mark it on the wall. Hang them and remove the tape.
Voilá!
This is how ours turned out. I am very happy with how it came looks and the good thing about it is that you can always change the pictures and give it another vibe.
I hope you liked it and if you have a photo collage on your home I would love to see it.
Until next time,
Pilar
