Alexander's room

Hey everyone, i am back with the blog to show you today Alexander's nursery. We wanted a clean-looking room, that was nice but not too baby-like, so that we coud keep it like this a while longer when he grows up. As we looked for nursery inspiration, we found that the nordic style was the one we liked the most and we tried to introduce touches here and there. Soft colours (mostly white, grey and mint) and some texture from rugs and pillows are what we think gives this space a soft atmosphere. I hope you'll like it.

As you can see, all of the furniture is white. The crib is from a shop here in Hannover. We did not buy from Ikea because they were a bit too low for our taste. The changing table and the closet are both from Ikea.

This is chest of drawers had originally black handles that I substituted for some blue clouds that I found on Amazon. This is a very cheap and effective way of update furniture that does not require painting and sanding.

I hope you liked sneeking into Alexander's nursery. If you would like to know where we found some of the pieces or some decor, please leave a comment down below and I will be happy to answer.

See you next time!

Flying with a baby

As Easter approaches I believe that most of us are planning some kind of family getaway to relax and maybe tank a bit of sun. In my opinion, having a baby does not have to stop you from doing the things you love (which in our case is travel), but you only have to adapt it to the new circumstances.

As I have already mentioned in other blog posts, my family lives in Spain and we fly regularly to visit them. The first flight we took with Alexander, he was only one and half months old, and you can imagine how nervous I was. But one thing I have to say, is that flying with a newborn is actually pretty easy. He slept the whole time!.

When booking the seats, we always try to have one on the window. It gives you a bit more privacy to nurse and if you have a toddler they enjoy looking out the window into the sky. Also, families with babies usually get on board before the rest of the passengers and you will have no problem in finding place for your hand luggage in the overhead compartments.

To move around the airport, we chose to take Alexander in a baby carrier. This allows you to have both hands free and the closeness to mum or dad calms him a lot. This is a very practical way to travel with a newborn until they are 6 months old. At this point, they are a bit too heavy to spend so much time in the carrier and they don't sleep as much.

For us now it was the time to purchase a travel-friendly buggy. Most buggies are suitable from 6 months and up. After some internet research, we chose the Nuna Pepp Luxx 2015 in black. We liked the fact that it can be used up to 18 Kg, when most of the buggies have a 15 Kg limit.

The  removable basket is big enough to carry some of your travel essentials with you and the bigger wheels makes it very easy to manouvre in different pavements. It also has a three position full recline and a two position adjustable calf support.

The canopy has a flip out eyeshade for sun protection with a mesh side panel that makes it breathable.
It is also very easy to fold and unfold and stands vertical when folded. The handle has five positions for taller parents. We find it very compact and easy to use as well as stable.

My last tips to you that are sort of a given is to nurse him or give him a pacifier for take off and landing. This will help relieve the ear pressure. And lastly, have always some spare clothes in your diaper bag just in case!

I hope you liked this blog post, and pleas let me know if you have some other tips for flying with babies that work for you.

Enjoy your vacations!

Our Wedding Day

Spring is around the corner and that not only means good weather, but also a lot of couples start to get engaged and plan their wedding. Today I would like to share with you how was our wedding day and hope that you can find some inspiration.

Because we wanted a wedding outside, we got married in Spain in a very nice villa in Alcoi (Alicante). The day was June 7th 2014. It was a warm sunny day that I will always remember. As our wedding planners we chose Romeos y Julietas. They are Rosa and Marta and made possible that our day was perfect. As we live in Germany, planning a destination wedding is not that simple, and they made it really easy and fun.

All the flower arrangements as well as my bouquet were made by El Jardín de Mamá Ana. They make the perfect team with Romeos y Julietas. The colour palette we chose was mint and peach and they made all the decoration and flowers follow this colour scheme. I really recommend you to take a look at their website and you will be amazed!

Our photographer was Paolo Bocchese and let me tell you that it was a clear choice for us. His photos are amazing, full of light and very natural. We were very comfortable with him and we cannot be happier with the result. All of the images of this blog post were taken by him.

Mathias and his family flew from Hannover and they were staying at a hotel. The both of us got prepared at my parents house in different rooms. Then we met at the garden and drove together to the ceremony in an old Rolls Royce. The drive before it all started is something I will never forget. We were just the two of us, nervous but very excited and to have this moment to ourselves was lovely.

After the ceremony, a cocktail was served at the pool. Our catering service was Grupo El Alto. The food was delicious and all of our guests really enjoyed it. We also had a cheese table and some professional spanish ham (jamón ibérico) slicers.

For the photocall we recreated a parisian cafe (because we got engaged in Paris). It turned out amazing... we had the best team!

I think that when you hire someone to plan and coordinate a day as important as your wedding, you have to be sure that they are real professionals and they love what they do. In our case, everything turned out just how we planned it and that takes a lot of work and coordination.

Remember that planning a wedding can be stressful and my recommendation is to just enjoy it and make a day you will never forget. Having around good professionals makes everything go smoother and when the day arrives you will not have to worry about anything and just be in the moment with your new partner in crime and your family and friends.

I hope you enjoyed having a peek at our wedding photos and maybe some inspiration as well.

 Until next time,

Pilar

DIY Bergamot Scrub

Everyday we all have tons of stuff to do, many errands to run, work to complete and people to meet. And on top of that we have to give it all and try to stay at the top of our game. That is when the stress kicks in and a much needed pamper session can work wonders.

Today I want to share with you a very effective scrub that I use on a regular basis. It is not only cheap but it will leave your skin soft and happy again.

This scrub is made with natural products that help unwind and soften the skin. You'll need:

Sugar (to fill the glass jar)
1/2 cup of coconut oil (almond oil o jojoba oil also work very well)
1 tsp of  bergamot essential oil (or another essntial oil that you like)
1 drop of food coloring (I used red)
1 glass jar

The coconut oil is one of the best products for our skin. It is very moisturizing and as it contains lauric acid it works very well with acne prone skin. It also helps prevent stretch marks. At room temperature it is hard, so I always scoop a bit in a small bowl and warm it in the microwave for about 10 to 20 seconds.

As essential oil I used bergamot. It acts as a stress reliever and also can help prevent colds. However, there are a lot of essential oils that can be used, and you can make different varieties of this scrub.

Mix in a bowl the sugar and the coconut oil. Depending on how wet or dry you want the scrub to be, you can add more or less oil. Then add the essential oil and the food colouring. Mix well. Then fill your glass jar and decorate!

The coconut oil will become hard again at room temperature, and I recommend that when you are about to take a shower or a bath, take a little of the scrub in a small bowl. With the warmth of the bathroom it will be more oily and lovely to use. If no water enters the scrub it can last about 6 months.

I hope that you try it and let me know how you liked it. Also, write in the comment below if you tried another scents and colours.

Until next time,

Pilar
